Class 1: At Home in America A photo of one or more people and/or animal(s) in a public or private garden. Statement of intent is required. THIS CLASS IS FULL
Class 2: Life Giving A waterscape emphasizing the life-giving quality of this earthly element as it “nourishes” the plants, animals or people of our planet in the way you envision. Statement of intent is required. THIS CLASS IS FULL
Class 3: Are you Ready for a Close-Up? A macro* image of an annual or perennial grown. Statement of Intent required. THIS CLASS IS FULL
Class 4: Beyond the Ordinary A still-life image in monochrome* of an inanimate subject and plant material. Statement of intent required. THIS CLASS IS FULL
Class 5: As far as the eye can see A landscape* photo taken in any season. For Novices* only. Statement of intent required. THIS CLASS IS FULL
Class 6: Gathering Together A photo of three plant species from a private garden arranged in a single container by the photographer or another GCE member. Statement of intent is required. THIS CLASS IS FULL.
*Macro: A photo in which the subject, or a part of subject, is life-size, or greater, and fills most, or all, of frame.
*Monochrome: An image is considered to be Monochrome only if it gives the impression of having no color (i.e. contains only shades of grey which can include pure black and (pure white) OR it gives the impression of being a greyscale image that has been toned in one color across the entire image. (For example, by Sepia, red, gold, etc.) A greyscale or multi-colored image modified or giving the impression of having been modified by partial toning, multi toning or by the inclusion of spot coloring does not meet the definition of monochrome and shall be classified as a color image.
*Landscape: Primarily a view of any kind of scenery, although secondary elements may be present, including water, people, animals, objects, structures, and/or any fabricated elements. “Landscape” also refers to orientation of an image/photo that is wider than it is tall.
*Novice: Is an individual exhibitor who has not won a first place ribbon or a GCA Special Award in Photography in a GCA Major Flower Show or Sanctioned Non GCA Major Flower Show.
